Linas Leščiauskas, born in Biržuvėnai (Telšiai district) in 1973, spent his childhood in the grandfather’s smithery in Luokė, playing with iron toys, and trying to forge metal. Therefore, it is not surprising that after graduating from school he chose artistic metalwork studies at Telšiai Applied Art School. He studied with so much passion that he completed two courses in one year. The ardour did not subside after getting the diploma, – he continued his studies at the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts, in the Department of Visual Design of Klaipėda.
While still being a student, in 1997, L. Leščiauskas equipped a smithery near Klaipėda, in the village of Klemiškė, where he is currently working and creating.
Since 1999 he participates in blacksmith symposia in various foreign countries. In the same year he created a sculptural composition in the joint project of blacksmiths of the Baltic countries Mare Balticum in Oldenburg (Germany). In 2000 he participated in the Fourth World Smith Congress Fero Insight 2000 in Germany. In 2001 he was the winner of the Art Gate competition in Klaipėda (Lithuania). He acquired new knowledge and experience in 2002-2003, while working as a blacksmith at the LMC company in the United States. In 2005 his works were published in the book Metal Design International 2005. He participated in a number of other international symposiums, plein-airs and festivals: in Ybbsitz (Austria), Vitebsk (Belarus), Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine), etc.
While participating in international blacksmith symposiums in Germany, he became fascinated with communication and interaction of metalworkers of other countries, and the joint work, and in 2005 invited several dozens of colleagues to his own smithery, to the first Lithuanian blacksmith’s congress in Klemiškė. This is where the Lithuanian Blacksmiths Union was founded, and L. Leščiauskas was elected to head it.
In 2007, the first creative blacksmith camps were organized in Klemiškė. They have grown into the annual international blacksmith plein-air Four Winds, which takes place in Klaipėda.
