The album presents the works by old professionals, and beginners and modern blacksmiths. Each author briefly introduces himself to our society. Here you will find the masters presenting their art and handicrafts: V.Jarutis (Alytus), V. Mockaitis (Telšiai), A.Stankus (Mažeikiai), Z.Žilinskas (Klaipėda district), R.Kriukelis (Kaunas). The subtleties of restoration are mastered by the following authors: G. Černiauskas (Klaipėda), A. Šeputis (Klaipėda). The subtleties of contemporary and classical design are presented in the creative works by R R.Vaitkūnas (Vilnius), E.Latėnas (Vilnius), R.Grekavičius (Kaunas), L.Leščiauskas (Klaipėda district). Famous blacksmiths from Šiauliai region with a distinctive style: R.Gudaitis, A.Degė, A.Sodaitis and M.Stošius, who subtly master and combine different materials such as wood and metal. V.Mikuckis (Mažeikiai) is able to reveal the old traditions of Lithuanian cross-making and the precise perfection of metal lines. The younger generation, M.Bumblys (Klaipėda), D.Vilius (Šilutė district), and others develop a distinctive philosophy of mastering the metal, striving to maintain the authentic blacksmith tradition.
Every author presented in this album has a special and unique style. Their works are different, as are their ideas, characters, and the areas from which they originate. But all of them is United back the blacksmith’s craft, which has evolved into the mastery of metal. Therefore, we really cannot call them just blacksmiths.
The aim of this album is to reveal the blacksmith’s traditions to the public. Authentic blacksmith works of different authors make it possible to feel the specific style of each of them and the spirit characteristic of Lithuanian metal forging. It is equally important to preserve national identity with disappearing as national borders, languages and cultural differences.
